symposium 2011 background

On Friday, October 14, the Dutch Neuroinformatics Node (Neuroinformatics.NL) is organizing a symposium and panel discussion on the future of Neuroinformatics in The Netherlands. The meeting will be of interest both to neuroinformatics researchers as well as those who use neuroinformatics research, such as researchers in system and cognitive neuroscience.

The participation of a wide audience is this year of particular importance, as we want to kick start the organization of the Dutch Neuroinformatics community in order to make full use of the Dutch membership of the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF), and to initiate funding programmes through lobbying the Dutch Science Foundation (NWO), the National Initiative for Brain and Cognition (NIHC, www.hersenenencognitie.nl) and Economic Affairs (EW).

Our first and foremost goal is to create a visible and active Neuroinformatics community in the Netherlands, which we plan to achieve with the help of a steering committee, consisting of Paul Tiesinga (RUN, chair), Jos Roerdink (RUG), Leon Kenemans (UU), Fons Verbeek (RUL), Bart ter Haar Romeny (TUE), and Martin Kersten/Arno Siebes (CWI/UU). During the symposium the steering committee will present an action plan to revive the Dutch Neuroinformatics node .

The October 14 symposium will feature presentations from both computational and database-related fields in neuroinformatics (see program), as well as a panel discussion on the role of neuroinformatics in new initiatives such as E-science, EuroBioimaging and the Human Brain Project and the best way to achieve a vibrant community.

We ask you to register for the meeting so that we can arrange sufficient seats and catering.
